Hamburg-based label VAN ROTH has made coats its primary focus. Combining complex silhouettes, select materials and love for the arts, VAN ROTH‘s idea of what makes a coat advances to become an emblem of sheer sensuality.
To wear a coat is to immediately transport a message to the outside world. Design and quality communicate individual values that exist below the surface. Being an emancipated individualist, the coat leaves a lasting impression.
THE COAT
Because of its extended surface, the coat is considered to be an object of experimentation focussing on contrasting silhouettes. Sophisticated patterns that blend plane and sculptural textures determine the collection’s aesthetics.
The coat as a piece of art is a manifestation of timeless elegance as well. It endures high fashion‘s volatility.
VAN ROTH deals with tangible expressions of ambiguity. By employment of asymmetry throughout the design and manufacturing process, the collection has plenty of unique expressions to offer – ranging from appealing familiarity to stylish outlandishness.
With great artistic and artisanal sensibility, the coat is redefined as wearable sculpture and exclusive apparel at the same time.
THERESA
To unite her passion for abstract art and the curiousness of polarity, Theresa founded VAN ROTH in late 2020. The debut collection‘s aesthetics are characterised by timeless classics of reverential beauty and firm quality.
Early forays into the world of glamorous outer wear date back to Theresa’s fashion design studies at the prestigious Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design in Halle, Germany. Intrigued by the seemingly unlimited potential of the outer shape to communicate by using a kind of “secret language,“ the creation of coats was destined to become the center of her future work.
Upon visiting the Hamburger Kunsthalle in 2008, she found herself deeply touched by the mystery of contrariness: juxtaposing ascetic clarity and explosive colorfulness. American artist Mark Rothko gets to the heart of that very artistic essence that inspires Theresa to this day.
Inspired by Abstract Expressionism and a love for the extraordinary, VAN ROTH takes a fresh look at the classically beautiful.
SUSTAINABILITY
VAN ROTH takes a clear stance against mass production and the oversaturation of the market by seasonal trends and “fast fashion.” The Hamburg based label establishes a beauty of its own, defined by timeless design, style and elegance.
The prime quality of each piece in the collection adheres to this principle. All fabrics used – such as cashmere, alpaca and pure virgin wool – are predominantly sourced from Italy.
Each coat is traditionally handcrafted and custom-made to make a longtime companion.
